[/media-credit]On Friday, Aug. 26, thousands of students and members of the surrounding community descended upon Weber State University to attend the seventh annual Block Party. WSU students encountered more than 100 booths set up by WSU’s various departments, clubs and organizations. At the end of the day, students could also attend the fourth annual WSU Foam Party that took place in Stewart Bell Tower Plaza from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
This Foam Party event had the highest attendance WSU has ever had at a school event besides sports games; more than 6,000 people were in attendance, making for a busy WSU campus.
“It went so great,” said Vanessa Phelps, a WSU student involved in the planning process for the event. “We had about 6,000-plus people come. I think it was a success. It was a blast.”
The psychedelic 1960s theme this year for WSU’s Block Party and Foam Party made for ’60s-style costumes as well as dance moves.
“We got the moves like Jagger,” said Bryan Fillmore, a WSU student who attended the Foam Party.
Students in attendance could participate in various genres of dance music, as well as watch a magician and lights that reflected on the foam, making it look colored.
“Between the lights, the riotously funny magician, and the concrete-pounding music, people couldn’t help but have a good time,” said Alex Gerrish, a WSU student majoring in music who was in attendance at the party.
Some students, though, weren’t as enthusiastic about the party.
“When I heard ‘Foam Party,’ I thought there would be more foam,” said Kirk Stapley. “It was pretty awesome anyway, though.”
Regardless of the theme, one thing students can plan on is the legacy of foam being integrated yearly.
“This was one of the most infectious parties I’ve ever been to,” Gerrish said.
